Come Back to Afghanistan

I listen to This American Life religiously, especially when I'm doing file work at work or at home. Ira Glass, Adam Bloomberg, Starlee Kine, Sarah Vowel- they're my best friends- who don't know that I exist. I've been listening to the archives, backtracking. There are two podcasts from 2003 that are well produced and give great insight to the rebuilding of Afghanistan, after the "fall" of the Taliban. The story is told by a California teenager, Hyder Akbar. What I can relate to is his sense of belonging to his parents culture though he was raised in California. His book, Come Back to Afghanistan, is now on my wish list.

Here is part one and part two of Hyder Akbar's story.
