Ardshona Island

Geoff has been going up to Canada every summer since the late sixties. In fact, he's there right now with his sister Liz, her son Jacob, and their brother David. Family traditions are nice. We refer to Ardshona, the little island that his family owns, within the Thirty Thousand Islands of the Georgian Bay in Lake Huron, as "Canada". His grandmother started renting Ardshona when her Cincinatti friends vacationed there in the 60's. She bought Ardshona in the early 70's when there was no electricity on the island- it was a rustic get-away. There is electricity these days but it can easily get knocked out and telephone service is through a radio phone, it's quite spotty. There isn't a tv or the internet, which leaves plenty of time for sailing, canoing, kayaking, swimming, reading, picnicking, cooking, and family.

Hi, the photos are not working. I would love it if you could fix that. I have just finished spending a month out on ardshona, and it would be great to see some old pics.
I could submit some new pics too, if you would like to see what it looks like today.

Hi there, the pics are unfortunately not working because I have transferred those posts from my old blog. There isn't any easy way for me to get them back, though I could spend some time digging through my archives. Ardshona just got sold- would you happen to know the new owners?

technically yes. the current owner is a developer who is undertaking significant renovation of the place. I am a carpenter who worked on the job. The carpentry work is done, just the painters and finishers remain. I can tell you about it if you would like. I snapped some quick pics before last boat yesterday.

Wow, yes I'd love to see some photos of what Ardshona looks like now. I'll also look through and see what photos I have- many of them were photos of family things like cushions and art on the walls but I'll see about retrieving any I have of the property. Let's continue the conversation via email rona@ronachang.com.

you got it. I'll put something together and send it to your email address just as soon as I can pull the pics off my phone. I've actually just been called back to the island tomorrow, the developer decided the upstairs bathroom needs a new built in linen closet...

sorry, I never did find a chance to send you those photos. I notice though that the developer has the place for sale now, and there are nice photos with the listing. thought you might be interested -

You are so thoughtful for sending the link my way. I've shared it with Geoff and his siblings. Geoff doesn't even recognize some of the shots! The renovation looks great, but it definitely is no longer the rustic place it was when they got there in the late '60s, early 70's!
