Jane sent along a sneak preview to the Syracuse University BFA Photo Exhibition. It will be a one night event on Saturday, May 3rd from 6-9pm at the Delavan Art Center (501 W. Fayette Street, Syracuse, NY 13204).

I'm wondering if I can sneak away to go up on Sat... All that hard work, why is it only one night???

Fall colors at Minnewaska

I went hiking yesterday with Billy in Minnewaska. It was so beautiful and one of the best hikes I've ever done. The colors were amazing and the trail offered fantastic views.

Fall foliage with the boys

I went up the Hudson for the weekend with Mun to visit Billy at his man-pad. It was raining all day Saturday so we didn't manage to do much but take turns napping on Billy's couch and making a huge dinner. On Sunday it was beautiful and we headed to Mohonk preserve in New Paltz for a hike. The leaves are starting to turn and the air smelled so wonderful.

No to powerlines along the Delaware

I got an email this morning from Pat Carullo about an issue we are dealing with at our house in Pond Eddy which is along the Delaware River.

Dear Friend,

The federal government is facilitating mining by mountaintop-removal
and drilling in National Wildlife Refuges and powerline construction
in the Upper Delaware River National Park and other U.S. communities.

Ordinary folks and artists are working hard to protect our public
spaces and to preserve our constitutional and personal rights.

Dia: Beacon

On Sunday I took another trip with Mom to Dia: Beacon. Dia:Beacon is a museum for Dia Art Foundation's renowned collection of art from the 1960s to the present. It's located along the Hudson River in Beacon, NY, about an hour and a half north of Grand Central . Located in a former factory, the ceilings are high, there is lots of daylight shining in, and the collection is amazing. It was our first visit. I have to say that it was a totally easy get-away from the city and well worth it. We walked around town for a bit afterwards but were't too entertained. There was an excellent ice cream parlor where Mom got an amazing scoop of pistachio ice cream.

Dinner Paartay!

We like to have dinner guests, invite people into our home, and be good hosts. We had five guests, including twin (almost) nine year old girls, over for some Thai food (our favorite eating in and out food). This is our dining room pre-dinner with fresh flowers that Justine and I arranged that morning. The guests were served a fresh blackberry, blueberry gingerale as they walked through in the door.

Green curry rice noodles with peppers and chicken topped with fresh cilantro.

It was a successful and delicious dinner.

Barryville Farmer's market yumminess

During the summer, Barryville (one town over from Pond Eddy on the Delaware River) has a tiny farmers market behind River Mart, a sort of gourmet grocer. We stop by each of the vendors and pick up free range eggs, sometimes chicken or steak depending on what's available from Lucky Penny Farms. We buy fresh vegetables for salads to supplement our garden's crop. We buy super duper fruit from the Trapani siblings- juicy raspberries, plums, peaches, tart gooseberries, currants. Our beloved French baker of Flour Power makes the best espresso cookies with pistachios on top. Justine, our weekend guest, models the cookie below in our backyard. His semolina bread that we tried this week was excellent. It's such a nice treat to have fresh baked goods at the country house.

Raising Old Barns to Make a New Village

This is an article from the NYTimes that Carrie sent me about our next door neighbor in Pond Eddy, Hall Smyth. The photo of Hall and Kent is awful, they look like upstate monsters.
